Understanding the Proposed Bond

District Wide

The proposed district-wide improvements are focused on addressing facility and infrastructure needs while maintaining the spaces and resources that support students, staff, school operations and the community. The plan includes completion of the Bus Barn project, exterior repairs and technology upgrades at the SAMI, replacement of the football field turf, track resurfacing, and improvements to baseball and softball field lighting. Together, these projects are intended to improve the functionality, safety and long-term use of district facilities and activity spaces.

DISTRICT-WIDE NEEDS

Bus Barn

Bus Barn
Completing the last part of the updated Bus Barn buildings. This building will house the smaller school vehicles.

Proposed Solution & Impact
The proposed project allows us to pour concrete and build an indoor area for our non-bus vehicles to be housed. This will keep our vehicles out of the elements which will help them last longer, while also creating easier snow removal.

Baseball and Softball lights
Baseball poles were installed in 1981 and the softball poles were installed in 1988. The poles and fixtures are in need of being replaced, as several poles are no longer straight and the light fixtures are the originals.

Proposed Solution & Impact
Replacing the light poles and fixtures ensures that our baseball and softball teams can continue to play their games in the evening.  The new light poles on both fields would hold LED light s which significantly cut energy use, lower maintenance needs, and improve visibility for players and fans.

TheFootball turf replaced and track resurfaced
The football turf (originally funded by private funding/donations) and the track surface have outlived their life expectancy. It has been 14+ years since the turf was installed and track resurfaced.  The light poles have been replaced but upgrading to LED is due.

Proposed Solution and Impact
The turf has required multiple repairs (sewing seams) as it has aged and creates am unsafe playing surface. We continue to pay to fix it, but it is time to replace.  The turf is heavily used by many different school organizations (grades 7-12 football, marching band, soccer, physical education, unified programming, baseball/softball) as well as community groups (adult soccer league, youth football). With resurfacing, we could host high school soccer games.  The track  resurfacing would also impact various school groups and community members who utilize the track. Both facilities are always open to our community. LED lights will significantly cut energy use, lower maintenance needs, and improve visibility for players and fans.

COMMUNITY DONATIONS & THEIR IMPACT

We are surrounded by a community with generous donors. There have been 10+ million dollars of donations to our facilities, which is a large reason the exterior of our campus looks beautiful! These private funding/donations have come to our district with specific directions or intentions for how the money was to be used. These donations have created opportunities for many students and will continue to provide great experiences for years to come. The reality of the situation is: if these generous donors had not done what they have done, the district would likely be asking the community for even more money to put towards these outdoor facilities.
